From The Pastor's Study "Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the Land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:3,4 In God we trust was so wide a conviction in the American colonies that the founding fathers never thought twice before having the slogan placed on our money. There was no doubt in their minds who the Founding Father was, to whom they owed everything, and whose advice and consent they sought before making governmental or personal decisions. But somewhere along the way, with the dawn of the scientific revolution, we began to think that we had done it ourselves. More and more intellectuals and teachers were assuring us that God did not exist and mankind could discover all the answers to our problems. Given enough time and goodwill, there is nothing we cannot solve. But somehow there was never enough time, and goodwill was little more than a Christmas card sentiment. For every problem they tried to solve, they seem to create ten more that no one had been able to foresee. And now we hear people say, “Well how can we know all the answers. We’re not God are we?” No, they are not. But they were more willing to be in the beginning. The answer to mankind’s problems and needs can be found the same place they have always been found. “Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Pastor Rickard |
